The Gold Saucer is a massive entertainment complex owned by Shinra and
run by a guy named Dio. The currency accepted there is called GP which
you gain by winning games. (To enter the games, you have to pay in Gil)
The Gold Saucer is split into eight sections. Here is a short passage
about each one...
The Station:
This is the centre of all
that happens in The Gold Saucer. Here you will find seven different
holes which you have to jump into to be taken to that part of the
complex. Also, to help you navigate, there is a map in the centre. Now,
I will explain all of the sub-sections which you can enter through the
holes...
Event Square
In this part, there is a
stage where plays occur. On Disc one, when you go on a date with a
certain character, you will go here. The plays are free.
Speed Square:
This area has a shooting game
for you to play. The game costs 10 GP and if you get a certain amount
of points, then you win a prize. Here is the prize list..
3000 points...
5000 points...
1:35 soldier
Cid's flayer
Masamune blade
Aeris' Parasol
Super sweeper
-
Note: Aeris' Parasol and
Cid's Flayer are both extremely hard to obtain but well worth it
because although they aren't their Ultimate Weapons, they are more
powerful than Princess Guard or Venus Gospel.
Wonder Square:
This section of the Gold
Saucer is where you can play games most of which, if not all, accept
gil. Once you have enough GP you can buy items from the lady near the
entrance. Note: The ?????????? item which is worth 2000GP is some Exp.
plus materia, which means you gain twice as much Exp. at the end of a
battle as you normally would.
Round Square:
This part of GS contains a
feature calles the Pagola, which is a ride you go on when you go on a
date with a character. It takes you around the whole of Gold Saucer and
shows you all of the sites. If you want to go on this ride, it costs 2
GP but on Disc 3 it is temporarily broken down for some of the disc.
Ghost Square:
Here you will find a hotel
run by ghosts. It costs 5 GP to stay and there is also a small shop
there. Not much more to say about this really except you stay here on
Disc One for a while.
Battle Square:
This is the main attraction at the Gold Saucer. you fight battles and win different amounts of BP
depending on how many battles you win in the 9-stage system. Then, when
you have BP, you can trade it for items using the vending machines at
either side of the doorway. Here is a list of what you can get;

Also, after you've bought
W-Summon, you will be challenged to a special battle by Dio, the owner
of Gold Saucer. If you win, he will give you Final Attack materia
which, when equipped, uses the materia it is paired with just before
you die (particularly useful if it's paired with Phoenix 'cos you die
then come back to life!!) Note: You need to have already obtained
Cloud's Ultima Weapon and W-Summon before you can play this challenge.
Chocobo Square:
This is the part where you
are given the opportunity to raise your chocobo's class (see Chocobo
Page). You will be told how to do this section by asking the people who
are standing around. If you work your way through all the classes, you
will eventually get the following materia as prizes: Enemy Away, Magic
counter, Sneak Attack and Counter Attack.
